Thursday Update #2

Today we meet (part) of an amazingly beautiful family. These were a surprise birthday gift for Michelle's husband, so he wasn't part of the shoot. But I'm sure he loved the outcome!

Olivia just turned 3, and Blake is about to turn 1! They were a rambunctious group and I couldn't stop laughing the whole time!

Olivia's favorite color is yellow, so we searched high and low for a field of yellow flowers. To our surprise a mini field exists in the middle of Folsom, right behind a Peet's Coffee!
The field attaches to an adorable old wooden bridge, along with some stairs off the path. Olivia had fun running up and down the stairs (with little Blake jealously watching)!
Olivia also had fun running and jumping (and running some more) across the bridge. Though my favorite shots (not shown) are the ones of Michelle chasing her!
Absolutely beautiful family! I had so much fun spending the morning with them!

Thursday Update #1

After asking around some fellow photog-bloggers, I've come to the conclusion that posting 4 days a week isn't an option (for me at this time..). However I'm doing a few public teasers on my Facebook, so I will post a session a week here!

Without further ado I bring you Arabella.
A model, actress, wardrobe stylist and makeup artist!
Gotta love nontraditional brides!
Pairing a classic white flow-y skirt with a vintage beaded top, and trading it out for a silver sequin tube top with another vintage beaded jacket find! This girl has guts and glamor wrapped up in her own assured style!
Not only does she have guts for her style, but her attitude as well! Meeting at the Capital Rose Garden, we spent five minutes in the flowers before we realized it just wasn't going to work. So we ventured towards the succulents (and I do mean ventured...enduring sprinklers, mud, and rude groundskeepers)! Here I safely began suggesting posing IN FRONT of the cacti. But Arabella had other plans as she climbed (tulle and all!) through needles and thorns, all the while sitting UNcomfortably on a balance ball!
My cheeks hurt from laughing after this session, she was so much fun to work with we had a fabulous time bouncing ideas off of each other! (Or chasing after her on a bike..)!
And of course we finished the session with the traditional poses on the Capital steps (with over-sized jacks...of course)!
This is definitely one of those sessions I could post every picture from! LOVE IT!

i heart faces challenge #2

Welcome to the first ever i heart faces challenge!
Challenge this week is Shadows!

In case it isn't obvious, I chose this one because their shadow made a perfect heart. <3 No editing (other than basic, and an action applied in Lightroom)

Better After Friday #2

Welcome back to Better After Friday!
Here I will showcase before and after images!

Today's image is from a recent session at the LDS Mormon Temple in Folsom, CA!
Very rarely am I asked to remove tattoos in photos, but this newlywed asked so I have spent the last week removing tattoos! For that reason I have decided to showcase an image from this session!

Once again, some creative cloning in Adobe Photoshop CS4, and some spot healing and the tattoos are gone! She has two on her colarbones, one on her wrist and two on her feet! The hardest are definitely on the feet because the strap goes through them (not shown in this image). If you're trying to remove tattoos, make sure you have lots of caffeine and patience!
1. SOOC (Straight out of camera)
2. Cloning out tattoos and basic adjustments
3. Lightroom Action (Using my preset)

Adjustments:
Slight curve bump
Soften skin (my personal recipe)
Brighten eyes
Smart Sharpen
Warm filter

 Burned in background

Action: Personal preset created in Lightroom

i heart faces challenge #1

Welcome to the first ever i heart faces challenge!
Challenge this week is People's Choice!

I decided on this family, partly because I've been highlighting them all month, and partly because I just love this picture. So much personality, love and warmth in this shot!

Better After Friday #1

Welcome to my first ever Better After Friday!
Here I will showcase before and after images!
I also LOVE B&W so expect to see lots of it!
(if you're wondering, I changed it from Sunday because my timelines didn't work for challenges!)

Today's image is from a recent session at the families home. Shooting on-location means being unable to control the environment for the shoot! We decided to play around in the front yard on the couples' bike. In this particular image my own vehicle is in the background.

Some creative cloning (In Adobe Photoshop CS4) and it's gone!
I have some worse ones from the shoot, and I may feature another next week.
I have to admit, I rarely have to do much editing on my photos other than basic adjustments. But in situations like this, I shoot to get the shot I want, and still keep my photoshop hours limited!

1. SOOC (Straight out of camera)
2. Cloning and basic adjustments
3. Lightroom B&W (Using my preset)

Adjustments:
Slight curve bump
Soften skin (my personal recipe)
Brighten eyes
Contrast boost
Smart Sharpen
Warm filter
B&W: Personal preset created in Lightroom
